With this action, SDOT validated and affirmed the EIS findings, consistent with the affirmative decision by the Seattle Hearing Examiner and with the view of tens of thousands of Seattleites who have expressed their support for completion of the trail over the past two decades.
Long-time trail advocates, community groups and individuals reacted to the news. As one of the founding members of the Burke-Gilman Trail Park Committee that worked tirelessly for nearly six years to create the BGT 40 years ago, I am thrilled that this long-overdue project will soon be completed!

Per the SDOT website, construction is expected to start in early and be completed in Mayor Durkan is continuing to hear from trail opponents who want to undue the decades of work that got us to this point. It is time to get this done!

With this ruling the City of Seattle has the authority to move forward and complete the Missing Link. The vision to complete the trail in time for the 50th anniversary of the start of the Burke-Gilman Trail moves forward with strong Ballard community support.
Working with trail stakeholders and the business community through a Design Advisory Committee, Seattle DOT has nearly completed the corridor design. Building the Missing Link in will provide community benefits for those of us in Ballard and beyond for decades.
